Visiting JCCAC

In 26 Feb, i had gone to JCCAC to see an exhibition. As we known, JCCAC is a place that many different type of artist came together. Also, ther will be many different exhibition all around a year. You can go there  anytime that you like. Furthermore, the position of JCCAC is very convenient, i went to Shek Kei Mei MTR and walk for 5-8 mins than arrive there. I am very lucky, i can see four different types of exhibitions in that day.

First i will introduce one digital art to all of you. It calls " TINO where memories go". This is created by George Ho. This exhibition is very special. There is only one art piece in here. This is an interactive sound installation art.

"TINO"

This work is made in wood. When i saw this art work, i thought it is a dinosaur, and a sculpture construct in many timber pieces. However it is not. It is an elephant which called Tino. Than, there was a question appear in my brain-- Who is Tino?? A cartoon character?? Just a simple name?? Tino is the elephant of Lai Chi Kok Zoo (Lai Yuen) , also the only one elephant keeps in Hong Kong for long time.  Lai Yuen is a most famous theme park at Hong Kong in 1958- 1997. Lai Yuen equals to Ocean Park and Disneyland in Hong Kong nowadays. Only the shape of sculpture can recall many Hong Kong people memories.

Lay your hand under the tip of the trunk to trigger the sound effect. Each sentence presented in the sound effect can be traced back to a moment in Hong Kong's history.

Some of the words may have been fading from memory, perhaps hardly have any impression. If all the fragments of the phrase are pieced together, what kind of story about Hong Kong can combine in a complete true Hong Kong story with these words

In caption, there are few voice record. All of these record are related to the Hong Kong politic. Such as, Murray MacLehose, Lau Wai Hing, Deng Xiao Ping.....

In recent years, the conflict between Hong Kong and China become a hot topic. I think this art work have a strong sense of political. i think it is a time for all the Hong Kong people to reflect ourselves. Which nation we are? This work also bring us a lots of memories of Hong Kong. Such as, the history of Hong Kong, 1997.... I love this artwork. It is because their local consciousness.

  1. It would of been very useful it you could of added more information and links about JCCAC and George Ho. The aspect how you describe the artist uses the memories of Lai Yuen to propose a political statement is very interesting. Again, JCCAC is a very local-minded place, try to connect these dots between the art work, artist's background, exhibition space, with your own experience in your writing.
